The FDA published a Dear Veterinarian letter on December 16, 2024 about the popular arthritis medication for dogs, Librela.
This letter notified veterinarians about adverse reactions reported in dogs treated with Librela:
According to the New York Post, the arthritis medication “has sickened thousands of pets and likely caused others to die, the Food and Drug Administration said in an urgent warning.”
Between January 2023 and March 2024, over 3,600 cases were reported with symptoms including ataxia, seizures, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle weakness, and more. Librela has only been in the United Stated since May 2023.
There are several veterinarians educating pet parents about this announcement and what you can do if your dog is suffering from arthritis. This video helps walk you through the different options.
